The Simons Foundation, a private foundation based in New York, supports the free repository arXiv with an operating grant.

This helps to process the transition of arXiv from an exclusive initiative of Cornell University Library to a collaboratively governed, community-supported resource. This new governance and business model is a major step towards sustainability and will allow the repository to grow and succeed in the future.
