Swiss National Science Foundation releases guidelines for data management plans

Researchers who are applying for Swiss National Science Foundation (SNSF) project funding will have to supply a data management plan (DMP) as of October 2017. The SNSF has just released the guidelines and regulations for DMPs.

DMPs will encourage good data management practices throughout the data lifecycle in order to better document, store and validate research findings. Moreover, the SNSF expects that data generated by funded projects will be publicly accessible in non-commercial, digital databases provided there are no legal, ethical, copyright or other issues.

National initiatives, like the swissuniversities-funded project Data Lifecycle Management (DLCM), are going to provide services and support for the creation of DMPs. The University of Zurich provides further information on research data with its recently launched website www.data.uzh.ch.
