access2research launches open access petition

The organisation access2research launched a petition on the White House website calling for open access to US tax-payer funded research.

If the petition reaches 25,000 signatories in 30 days it will get an official response from the US Administration. The highly successful Public Access Policy of the National Institutes of Health proves that this can be done without disrupting the research process. So the petition urges President Obama to implement open access policies for all federal agencies that fund scientific research.

A strong response in the US will also help in other countries. And anybody can sign the petition - you don't have to be a US citizen. All you need to be is someone who believes there should be more open access!
